A question we get often from parents: when is the best time for my athlete to eat HEROFUEL?
Here's the bottom line:
Think of HEROFUEL as a complete, well-balanced snack that provides the ideal fuel for your athlete.
Consume HEROFUEL 30 minutes before your athlete's sports activity or within 30 minutes after.
Now, the details:
HEROFUEL is a protein-based nutrition bar. There’s 10g of protein in each bar, which is about 40% of the recommended daily amount for kids aged 6-14.
Remember we're aiming for a 4:1 carbohydrate to protein ratio in your athlete's diet. HEROFUEL has a 2:1 carb to protein ratio so it can be used to increase the protein side of this equation. Carbs are everywhere and easy for kids to get in their diets, protein not so much.
Typically, bars with a high protein content like HEROFUEL are viewed as recovery bars or "post-workout" bars. This is because protein is vital to muscle recovery and repair. Therefore after your athlete's practice or competition is a great time to eat HEROFUEL.
Be sure to consume it within 30 minutes after their sports activity as this is the time when muscles are most receptive to nutrients.
That said, HEROFUEL is not just a recovery bar. We wanted to design a bar that was well-balanced and not simply 100% protein. HEROFUEL has almost 20 grams of carbohydrates. Half of these carbohydrates come in the form of simple carbs (honey) and half come from complex carbs (nuts). This carbohydrate blend provides sustained energy for your athlete.
The combination of protein and carbohydrates means HEROFUEL can be used as a complete, well-balanced snack to fuel your young athlete as needed throughout their busy schedule.
Another common time for athletes to consume HEROFUEL is after school before practice. This is a great time as the complex carbohydrates and fiber will provide sustained energy for the upcoming practice, while the protein will help muscles recover from any activity during the day.
In this circumstance, be sure to eat HEROFUEL at least 30 minutes before your athlete's practice or competition. This is to ensure your athlete has ample time to digest before their sporting activity begins.
