HEROFUEL™ Dare to Compare

As Holly pointed out last week, it's clear that kids need proper fuel to perform at their best on and off the field. Our goal at HERO is to provide the world's best fuel for young athletes to allow them to maximize their output. The challenge (and the opportunity) is to deliver the correct proportions of macronutrients while not sacrificing on taste.

HEROFUEL is certainly not the only solution for your athlete on game day. We're advocates for utilizing whole, raw foods as much as possible. However, your options for pre-packaged snacks that are quick and easy are limited. Therefore, we decided to break down a couple of the most popular options to examine how HEROFUEL stacks up.

Clif Z Bar

One of the only bars for kids on the market today is the Clif Z Bar. The first three ingredients are: Organic Oat Blend (Organic Rolled Oats, Organic Oat Flour, Organic Oat Fiber), Organic Tapioca Syrup, and Organic Chocolate Chips (Organic Dried Cane Syrup, Organic Unsweetened Chocolate, Organic Cocoa Butter, Organic Soy Lecithin, Organic Vanilla Extract). As you can see, this bar tends to offer more carbohydrates and less protein. Because this bar is more of a pure carbohydrate/energy snack, it is available at a lower price point.

Trail Mix

Another popular snack amongst young athletes is trail mix. Trail mix is hearty, filling, and let's be honest, it's a good sweet tooth cure for chocolate lovers. Trail mix can be a good option if you don't mind the processed sugar coming from M&M's. Nuts provide healthy fats and some protein (just don't overdo it as you don't want too much fat in the stomach before competing). All trail mixes are not created equal, so check the nutrition label and avoid mixes with added sugar and try for organic ingredients when possible.  Trail Mix is often available at a reasonable price point, it simply requires a little more preparation.

Orange Slices

The simplest and most iconic is the good old orange slice.  Oranges provide quick energy from natural sugars and provide useful nutrients. Oranges are a great convenient snack but offer little in terms of protein and should be paired with an additional snack to aid in muscle recovery.

Let's see how each snack compares across Calories, Fiber, Sugar, and Protein:

HEROFUEL vs. Clif Z Bar, vs. Trail Mix, vs. Orange Slice

As you can see, in engineering HEROFUEL we tried to take the best elements from each snack and combine them into one.

In addition, HEROFUEL is all-natural and gluten-free, so you can rest assured all the ingredients are simple, whole foods. Because we use premium ingredients, it does come with a higher price point, but HEROFUEL can be used for those special occasions when your child needs absolute optimal nutrition.

We encourage you to try HEROFUEL free to see how it stacks up with the snacks you're currently using.

One of the aspects we're most proud of is the taste profile. Hundreds of parents and children have raved that it's the best tasting snack bar they've ever tried. It is sweet (from the honey) and very chocolatey (from the cocoa and chocolate chips). But don't take our word for it, receive two free samples and try it out!

Beautiful breakdown! I’ve been using the Cliff Z Bars for a while now but suspect my daughter is sensitive to gluten. I am so relieved to be able to give her something that is gluten-free, has more protein, and tastes much better!
