A couple rule changes were agreed upon by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Wrestling Rules Committee this past spring that you and your wrestler should be aware of for the 2014-15 season.
The first amendment was to rule 5-1-1, which deals with bad time. It originally did not state certain situations where a wrestler in a wrong position or a wrong wrestler was given the option of position at the beginning of either the second 30-second or the ultimate tiebreaker. Now, 5-1-1 includes that in the rule.
Rule 10-2-9 was changed as well. It previously didn't address who would move forward in a championship bracket when two wrestlers were tied. The new implemented clause states that the wrestler who scores the first points in a match will advance in the consolation bracket. If neither scored, then neither will move forward.
NFWS Rules Committee Chair Alan Beste said he was "very proud" of the work and changes made by the committee for the upcoming wrestling season.
