Full Name: Saya Ryan
City: Atherton, CA
We are so excited to introduce you all to this amazing lady, Saya Ryan! She is one of the smartest, most mature, most driven kids I have ever met. Who knew I could look up to someone that is 13 years old?! I got the chance to spend time with her and get to know her better. Read her interview below and you'll see what I mean...
What sports do you play?
I swim and it is my favorite because it is a lot harder than other sports, and I like that. I also love that it is both a team and an individual sport.
What’s the best advice you’ve received from a coach or role model?
“It’s not about the end goal, it’s about the progress. Even if you're an olympian, you might not be remembered years later but it’s about the person you become in the process”.
What is your biggest sports-related goal?
My goal is to make it to the Olympics and NCAAs!
What's your favorite subject in school?
Social studies and math are my favorites. I like social studies because of the teacher and math because there is always logic and a real answer to every question.
What’s your most prized possession?
My Academic decathlon award! I got 1st place in regionals and won 1st in every section. I went onto state and placed 3rd. This 3rd place medal is my most prized possession.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
A doctor- a surgeon probably. I really like helping people.
If you could have one super power, what would it be?
Mind-control so that I trick people into thinking you’re invisible or that have other super powers-- it’s an all-in-one power!
Who is your hero?
Katie Ledecky because she was an olympian at 15. Also my parents (because they are always driving and working hard for me to help you succeed).
What is one thing people would be surprised to learn about you?
I speak Japanese fluently.
When are you happiest?
When I am in the pool, with friends, or reading. I really like reading scifi or fantasy..
What do you think it means to be a good person?
Always caring for other people. Being conscious of and trying to fix the problems in the world. You have to make sure to also think about and take care of yourself. .
