Nik Pardue comes to us all the way from North Carolina, and we are quite glad that he did. Nik has been such a great plus to our HERO Quest, bringing with him his big smile, passion for life, and downright grit. He loves the feeling he gets when he steps onto the mat, and we know that feeling is what breeds the drive and motivation to become one of the greats. Another aspect of his wrestling game that makes Nik especially great is his sportsmanship: win or lose you have to be a good sport. We at HERO really appreciate all that Nik has contributed, and we look forward to watching him in the years to come. Go out and take it!

Why do you enjoy wrestling?

I enjoy wrestling because of the feeling I get when on the mat. I can depend on myself to make the right choices and it gives me freedom to be me.

What's the best thing wrestling has taught you?

Wrestling has taught me to be accountable for my actions.  My failure or success depends on the decisions that I make in the moment. I have learned how to win and lose with sportsmanship. These skills have carried over into my life off the mat too.

What's the best advice your coach has given you?

My coach has taught me how to be a good sport and encourages me to give 100%. His best advice would be that there will always be another match. If I have a tough loss, he gives me advice on what went wrong then tells me to get them next time.

.

How do you handle tough defeats?

I handle tough defeats by watching the videos that my mom records of the match over and over till I see what went wrong and what I can do next time to avoid those errors. I then take my coach’s advice that I will have another shot. Then I practice, practice, and practice to ready myself for the next tournament.

.

What’s your proudest achievement as a wrestler?

I am the proudest that I was voted All Conference out of all the guys that are in my wrestling team’s conference this year.

What's your favorite wrestling move?

My favorite wrestling move would be the tilt series and super double.

Do you have a hero or role model?

I would say David Taylor from Penn State Wrestling, and Dan Gable.

What's your favorite subject in school?

My favorite subject is Science. I like being hands on with the live animals that my science teacher keeps in the classroom.

Do you play any sports aside from wrestling?

I play football, track, and weightlifting.

Do you have any other hobbies outside of wrestling?

I also really enjoy hunting and fishing!

What are your goals for your wrestling career?

My goals for my wrestling career are four state titles and to continue wrestling in college. I want to wrestle for the Iowa Hawkeyes.

What are your goals for the next 1-5 years?

I want to be the first freshman from my high school to win State. My plan is to work hard and qualify for State all four years of high school. I plan on keeping my grades up and wrestling in college.

Where is your biggest area where you could improve?

The biggest area that I could improve on is being on bottom. Being on bottom is the biggest part of wrestling and if you can’t get off bottom then you are pinned.
