Founder Notes 5/14/16

I wanted to start something new on the HERO blog. Periodically I'll write a quick recap of the latest and greatest goings on at HERO. Hopefully it will be a nice way to keep up to date with us and a refreshing glimpse behind the curtain of our young company.

May. Wow! How quick this year is flying by. I'm always mentioning this to customers, but it wasn't until November of last year that we truly launched HeroFuel by setting up and selling at local sporting events. In fact, our first event was on Oct. 27th, 2015-a small wrestling tournament in Sunnyvale. That day we sold all the product we had (a whopping $107 worth) and even sold some without any labels on the bags after we ran out. Not recommended :)

It's safe to say we've come a long way since then.

We've been to over 50 sporting events to sample the product and we now have about 300 customers and sell around 1,000 bars per month. 

Along the way... 

We launched our #TeamHERO program where we sponsor and highlight local athletes who represent what it means to be a HERO. We did our first photoshoot in February with 4 athletes and our next one will take place tomorrow, Sunday 5/15 with three gymnasts.

HeroFuel is now sold through 11 health and fitness clubs in the Bay Area. Although our goal is not to go the traditional retail/grocery route, these clubs have provided us an excellent channel to introduce the product to families who care about health and nutrition. 

Perhaps the most exciting progression for me personally has been our packaging. Packaging plays such an integral role in any food product yet it can be expensive to print custom packaging, and doubly so in our case since we refuse to use the industry standard for bags, opting instead for resealable packs. I'm proud to say that in the beginning of June we'll be launching all new packaging. Finally we'll have packaging that we'll be proud to put our product in. We can't wait to share it with you and show it off!

Our goal from the start was to build the world's best brand centered around the young athlete. If you're reading this, thank you for being on this journey with us and we hope we'll continue to have the honor of fueling, celebrating, and inspiring your athlete.
